For longer than I can remember, I have had a love affair with the Irish
Wolfhound. I don't even think I met one until I was around 12
years of age, but even before then, I knew what lay in my future.
Kevin and I got our first hound in February, 2002. She was
Karontara Boba Fett - Boba for short. She was my dream come to
life, and sadly, we only had 3 years with her before she was taken from
us by pneumonia. When Boba was almost 2 years old,
we got Jadzia. Losing Boba was as hard on Jad as it was on us,
and several months after Boba passed, Artemis entered our lives.
Jad and Mis soon became the best of friends. Shortly after our
move here, the chance at a lovely bitch puppy presented itself and we
could not pass it up. And so Rogue entered our lives. In the spring of 2008, we had the first Arahu Litter (the Inkubus Sukkubus litter), out of Jadzia. From it, we kept Brigid and Cernunnos. Along
with the 5 hounds, we presently share our lives with 2 cats, Leia and
Pippin.
I show the hounds at IW specialty shows in Canada and the US, as well as attending the occasional all breed show or Hound Group specialty. We are active with the hounds in lure coursing, both with the CSFA and ASFA. Along with these beautiful hounds, Kevin found a love of
photography. Some of his best shots are of our hounds on the coursing field, or play fighting in the yard! His passion and talent are apparent in his photos (as you can see throughout our site). Recently, he was the show photographer for the IWCC 2008 National Specialty show.
It is our goal to breed sound hounds, both in form and function, on a small scale. We only breed when we are ready ourselves for a new addition, and we feel that we have someone special to go forward with. We strive for athleticism, and much of our focus is on breeding a hound that could indeed course and take down a wolf. Our hounds live in the house with us always - usually on our many couches!
Visitors are always welcome at Arahu. We just ask that you kindly
contact us first to make arrangements.
Blessed be
Sid Wood
